Anya Loukianova

Anya Loukianova, Research Associate, NISNP

Anya Loukianova was a research associate in the Newly Independent States Nonproliferation Program (NISNP) from August 2007-August 2009. Her research focused on nuclear and missile developments in Russia and the NIS states and civil highly enriched uranium minimization. She also managed several nonproliferation databases for the Nuclear Threat Initiative's research library. Prior to joining NISNP in August 2007, Anya worked as a research assistant at the CNS office in Washington, D.C., focusing on export control and cruise missile proliferation issues. She had also previously interned at the Institute for Defense & Disarmament Studies and the Brookings Institution. Her work has appeared in The Nonproliferation Review, the online Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, WMD Insights, and Eksport Vooruzheniy.

As of August 2009, Anya is working on her PhD in policy studies at the University of Maryland, College Park. She is also a research assistant for the Center for International and Security Studies at Maryland (CISSM). Anya holds an MPIA in security and intelligence studies from the University of Pittsburgh and is originally from Tula, Russia.
